2008 Desalination and Water Reuse International Forum & Equipment Exhibition, sponsored by Tianjin Municipal People¡¯s Government, State Oceanic Administration, P.R. China and International Desalination Association, was successfully held at Tianjin International Exhibition Center in October 28th, 2008. The key theme of this forum is desalination, the sustainable development strategy of water resource. During the opening ceremony of this forum moderated by Mrs. Zhiming Wang, deputy secretary general of Tianjin Municipal People¡¯s Government, Mr. Zhiping Wang, deputy mayor of Tianjin Municipal People¡¯s Government, met the delegates from home and aboard and addressed the opening for the forum. At the meantime, Mr. Jianjun Li, Director of Tianjin Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Mr. Lei Bo, Vice Director of State Oceanic Administration, P.R. China, Mr. Leon Awerbuch, Chairman of Technology Commission of IDA, represented the opening remarks. This forum is the third time congress after 2004, 2006, which already become the largest and first level of international technology communication event in the field of Chinese desalination and water reuse in term of model and profession.

Domestic and foreign experts made presentations, focused on enhancing comprehensive utilization of water resource, promoting the sustainable development of the economic society, Hybrid Thermal/Membrane Processes and Innovation in Desalinating Process. And also, in the two following days, there are 22 professional representatives from universities, research institute and famous enterprises who will make speeches on the subjects of technology innovation, project construction, key equipments and products in desalination and water reuse, including 13 experts from aboard, Prof. Shichang Wang of Tianjin University, Dr. Guoling Ruan of Tianjin Institute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose Utilization. The Experts and representatives of the forum reach more than 200 form 13 countries and regions.

Meanwhile, Desalination and Water Reuse International Exhibition is open. In the exhibition hall of 6,500 square meters, the equipments and technologies from 121 enterprises are displayed, including the products from USA, Japan, Singapore, etc. In the exhibition, the showing area of 500 square meters are occupied by the Tianjin Pavilion, in which the enterprises and research institutes from Tianjin exhibit the successes and achievements in Tianjin desalination R&D transformations and project constructions. Through the display, domestic representatives have a direct opportunity to acknowledge the art-of-state of technology, engineering and industrialization capacity regarding desalination and water reuse in Tianjin.

The relevant leaders from Tianjin Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Tianjin Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Tianjin Municipal Economic Commission, Administrative Commission of Tianjin Binhai New Area, Administrative Commission of Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industry Park, Tianjin Oceanic Administration, Desalination and Water Reuse Society of China, Tianjin University, Tianjin Polytechnic University, Tianjin Institute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose, Utilization, State Oceanic Administration (SOA) take part in the opening ceremony and forum and pay a visit to the exhibition.
