2004 International Desalination Forum (Tianjin, China) opened at Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area on April 11, 2004. On the opening ceremony, Mr. Shen Guofang, Vice-president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Abdulhamid A. Al-Mansour, President of International Desalination Association (IDA), Mr. Liang Su, Vice Chairman of Tianjin Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Mr. Yang Dongliang, vice mayor of Tianjin municipality gave addresses respectively to extend the warmest welcome to the experts abroad and at home and all the representatives across China. The forum invited nearly 30 famous domestic and overseas experts to give reports on different field in seawater desalination, such as Mr. Leon Awerbuch, Chairman of Technical Program Committee, IDA, Mr. Gao Congjie, the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, chairman of Chinese Seawater Desalination & Water Reuse Society, and so on. More than 230 representatives from China and other countries of Europe, America and Asia participated in this conference. During the meeting, experts and representatives also visit the demonstration project on seawater desalination in Tianjin.
By this forum, Chinese representatives further learned about the advanced technologies on seawater desalination in the world. Foreign experts also knew well about the development of seawater desalination project in China. It gave both sides a good opportunity to get well known about each other so as to create more chances to cooperate in the future.
