| Tianjin Overseas Chinese Scholars Technology & Talent Convention

On August 10, 'Tianjin Overseas Chinese Scholars Technology & Talent Con-vention' opened at Tianyu Hotel. The Mayor of Tianjin, Mr. Li Shenglin, the Vice Chairman of China's Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Mr. Li Zupei, and the Vice Mayor, Mr. Wang Shuzu and other leaders were present at the opening ceremony. Mayor Li Shenglin addressed the opening speech to extend the warmest welcome to those excellent overseas scholars repre-senting Tianjin Municipal Government and all the citizens of Tianjin.
This Convention, hosted by Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Com-mission and organized by Northern Technology Exchange Market, invited 150 Chinese scholars abroad from 11 countries, such as the United States, Canada, Britain and Japan, 90% of whom got Doctor degree. They came to Tianjin this time with more than 150 technologies, covering environmental industry, E-Information, Bio-medicine, new material and machinery manu-facturing, negotiated with over 200 companies, science and research insti-tutes, and universities in Tianjin. Selected by Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission and other departments concerned, and analyzed by the experts on related studies, these technologies are more qualified and mature, some of which are even blank until now in China.
Most of these overseas Chinese Doctors, aged around 40, are right at the "golden age" of carving out their own career, with the advantage of over 10 years' study and practice abroad. They think that China is undertaking great reform in both political and economic areas, and it is just the time to come back and start their own business at home. Especially, some of overseas scholars having made outstanding contributions to the new energy, Bio-technology, artificial crystal and etc, have become the important vigor of scientific and technological innovations in these fields. This makes more overseas Chinese get more confident about coming back.
'Tianjin Overseas Chinese Scholars Technology & Talent Convention' fea-tured with "Science & Technology Forum of Overseas Chinese Scholars", "Report Meeting of the Investment Environment in Tianjin", "Business Meet-ing for Overseas Hi-tech Projects", and "Communication Meeting for Over-seas Talents". Up to the end of this 3 days' Convention, there were more than 60 cooperation intents and on Aug. 12, 15 agreements for cooperation were signed.
This event lets overseas Chinese scholars learn more about Tianjin and pro-vides a good opportunity for them to strengthen the cooperation in economy, science and culture in Tianjin.
