Engineering Symposium 2002

| Hosted by Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Tianjin Municipal Development Planning Commission, Tianjin Municipal Economy Commission, and Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau, 'Tianjin Environ-mental Science & Technology Engineering Symposium 2002' opened at Tianyu Hotel on Aug. 20. Before the Symposium, Mr. Xia Baolong, the man-aging vice mayor of Tianjin, met Mr. Liu Hongliang, the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Wang Yangzu, the president of China Associa-tion of Environmental Protection Industry, and other experts in studies con-cerned. On the Symposium, Vice Director of Ministry of Science and Tech-nology of China, Mr. Chen Chuanhong gave an address. And Mr. Liu Hongliang made a lecture on the present situation of environmental pollution in China and the corresponding measures. The presentation made by Mr. Wang Yangzu focused on the present situation of market for environmental industry in China. More than 210 people from environmental industry system and science and technology system across the whole country, universities, research institutes and companies in Tianjin participated in this Symposium.
On August 21, leaders of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Mission and Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau cut the ribbon for ' Achievement Expo of Northern Environmental Protection Base' held in Northern Technol-ogy Exchange Market. 66 research institutes and companies exhibited their technologies and products at the Expo. The Expo was divided into two pavil-ions, one is specialized on the introduction of Baili Environmental Protection Industry Park and Jinnan Compact Area for Environmental Protection Indus-try, the other is focused on the exhibition of the apparatus, equipment and material for environmental protection, and some special technologies of sew-age, solid waste treatment, noise control and etc. Mr. Liu Hongliang, Mr. WangYangzu and heads of the environmental protection bureau from over 30 provinces and experts visited the exhibition with great interest and gave much credit to what Tianjin achieved on environmental protection industry. This Expo ended on Aug. 23.
